CAMPAIGN FOR COOPERATION IN SPACE
Who We Are:
Campaign for Cooperation in Space is a Coordinated International Network For Breakthrough, Enrolling U.N. Member Governments, Non-Governmental Organizations, Media, and the People to Implement A Permanent Ban on Weapons in Space.
Our Vision:
Together, we can put an end to the highly profitable war industry by putting our differences aside, uniting and working together by promoting win-win solutions to decision makers. Before our perpetual war economy expands into space, we must ban space weapons. A coordinated strategy to get world leaders to sign a treaty banning space weapons will put a lid on the war economy and result into a cooperative, democratic Space Age society that goes beyond fear and honours all life, instead of destroying it. With today's technology, a peace based economy can be just as profitable as a war based economy.
WE the People of Earth hereby Petition the United Nations General Assembly to have a Space Preservation Treaty permanently banning all space-based weapons and warfare in space ready for signature by all U.N. Member Nations by United Nations Day, 2005 [October 24, 2005].
IF the United Nations General Assembly fails approve a Space Preservation Treaty by October 24, 2005, then the General Assembly shall convene a Space Preservation Treaty Conference to ban all space-based weapons and warfare in space, as Canada did in the 1997 Ottawa Land Mines Treaty Conference, to be held in Victoria-Vancouver, B.C. in June 2006, as part of the World Peace Forum 2006.
Here is what best-selling author Mel Hurtig says about the Space Preservation Treaty-signing Conference
"We Canadians should help organize a major international conference in Vancouver to strongly condemn the weaponizing of space. We should invite Russia, China, India, Brazil, the Scandinavian countries, and many others to join us in a massive worldwide campaign against U.S. plansS. I suggest Vancouver because a large number of excellent people, with the encouragement of the [Vancouver] City Council, are already planning a World Peace Forum for 2006, and a proposal for a widely endorsed Space Preservation Treaty. The conference would be organized much as the 1997 Land Mines Conference in Ottawa." p. 183

Our Network
We evolved during the Summer of 2004 as a result of Internet dialogue between Sally Light, former member of the Board of Directors of Global Network, and Alfred Webre, International Director of the Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS) and discussions with Canadian-based NGOs, including Victoria Peace Coalition (Susan Clarke), Necessary Voices (Thomas Hicks), Lawyers Against the War (Gail Davidson), No Weapons in Space Campaign (Alfred Webre), and Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS) (Dr. Carol Rosin).
To transform this vision into reality, an aggressive campaign of communicating and sharing our solutions with international decision makers and our local mass media is necessary, with a healthy dose of people lobbying their governmental representatives and United Nations delegations.
STOP U.S. Missile Defense with a United Nations Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty The 1972 ABM Treaty between the United States and Russia, which outlawed "land-based, sea-based, air-based, and space-based" anti-ballistic missile defense systems was unilaterally abrogated by the U.S. Administration on June 13, 2002. Missile Defense Systems, such as U.S. Ballistic Missle Defense, are highly de-stablizing, dual-use nuclear first strike weapons, which inevitably will lead to the weaponization of space. They must be permanently outlawed. Please contact your Adopted U.S. Delegation to support a U.N. Anti-Ballistic Missile (ABM) Treaty. (See Below).
NOW THAT YOU HAVE SIGNED THE U.N. PETITION, HERE IS ONE MORE ACTION STEP YOU CAN TAKE!
ADOPT A U.N. MEMBER NATION & BAN SPACE-BASED WEAPONS NOW!
Click here and Adopt A United Nations Mission online. Email, write, phone and fax your Adopted Country's U.N. Delegation to sponsor and pass a U.N. Space Preservation Resolution requiring the UNCD to agree on a Treaty banning space-based weapons worldwide by United Nations Day, 2005 [October 24, 2005].
If there is no U.N. Treaty by the October 25, 2005 deadline, the U.N. Resolution mandates a Space Preservation Treaty-signing Conference to ban space-based weapons. Canada successfully hosted the 1997 Land Mines Treaty Conference, where 122 nations signed the Land Mines Treaty.
The overwhelming majority of the United Nations General Assembly wants to ban space-based weapons, and on December 8, 2003 (for Resolution 58/36) voted 174 - 0 (with 4 Abstentions: U.S.; Israel; Marshall Islands; Micronesia) for an international treaty banning an arms race in space.
Eight cities (Victoria, Vancouver, Nanaimo, Burnaby, Grand Forks, Sparwood, and Bowen Island, B.C. in Canada) and the City of Berkeley, California (USA) continue to call for a Space Preservation Treaty Conference to ban all space-based weapons. These Canadian City Councils have passed Space Preservation Resolutions calling on the Government of Canada to convene the Treaty Conference to ban all space-based weapons. Our Campaign and its network of active, concerned organization and individuals like yourself, are preparing a Space Preservation Treaty Conference to permanent ban space-based weapons worldwide, in conjunction with the Vancouver World Peace Forum in June 2006. 274 International NGOs support the Space Preservation Treaty & Act to ban all space-based weapons.
You can make the permanent ban on space-based weapons a reality by ADOPTING A COUNTRY ONLINE and, with citizen diplomacy, lead your adopted U.N. Delegation to approve the U.N. Space Preservation Resolution, and mandate a Treaty Conference at the World Peace Forum in Vancouver, B.C. in June 2006.
ADOPT A U.N. MEMBER NATION & BAN SPACE-BASED WEAPONS NOW!
TAKE THIS ACTION STEP: "ADOPT" A U.N. Delegation Online, and lead your adopted County to Pass a U.N. Space Preservation Resolution which:
“8. Directs the Conference on Disarmament, or its designee, Committee on the peaceful Uses of Outer Space or its designee, Ad Hoc Subcommittee on Preventing an Arms Race in Space, by October 24, 2005, to enter into binding negotiations for and have ready for signature by the Members of the General Assembly, an enforceable international agreement permanently banning all space-based weapons.
“9. Directs that if the Conference on Disarmament, or its designees, shall not have entered into binding negotiations for an enforceable international agreement permanently banning all space-based weapons by October 24, 2005, then the General Assembly shall convene a Special Ad Hoc Space Preservation Treaty Conference for the purpose of signing and implementing an enforceable international agreement permanently banning all space-based weapons.”
ADOPT A U.N. MEMBER NATION & BAN SPACE-BASED WEAPONS NOW!
A United Nations Space Preservation Treaty, when signed and ratified by at least twenty U.N. Member Nations, is the vital step missing that will help achieve peace on earth by preventing the escalation of weapons into space by establishing, at least:
- A permanent ban on space-based weapons
- A permanent ban on the use of weapons to destroy or damage objects in space
- A permanent termination of research, development, testing, manufacturing, production, and deployment of space-based weaons and anti-satellite weapons (ASATs),
- A permanent ban on the use of outer space for making war in any way, and
- The establishment of an independent Outer Space Peace-keeping Agency equipped to monitor outer space and enforce the ban.
Please email us your progress with the U.N. Delegation you have Adopted, so we can publish progress reports.
