VANCOUVER – Leuren Moret, Expert Witness at the 2004 Tokyo International Tribunal for War Crimes in Afghanistan and former Environmental Commissioner of the City of Berkeley, CA, will speak publicly for the first time in Canada, and address the Vancouver 9/11 Truth Conference on June 22-24, 2007 on the serious public health risk to Canada and the world posed by the use of Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons by the U.S. military forces in Iraq, Yugoslavia and Afghanistan.  Israel dropped over 4000 DU bunker-buster bombs on Lebanon in July 2006.

In April, 2007, Leuren Moret exposed the U.S. military’s illegal use of Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons in target practice in Hawaii, in violation of U.S. military regulations.  The elevated radiation readings she recorded were carried by ABC-TV news in Hawaii on April 29 & 30, 2007.

DU & 9/11

Leuren Moret reported similar elevated radiation readings downwind from the Pentagon in Washington, D.C. on September 11, 2001.  Two days after 9/11, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) confirmed that the crash site rubble was radioactive and that it was probably Depleted Uranium (DU) contaminating the Pentagon crash site rubble. The entry and exit holes through the Pentagon crash site were the signature of a kinetic energy penetrator, such as a Cruise missile, and the term “punch-out hole” was written by crash site investigators over the exit hole.  This is a military term used for kinetic energy penetrators.   Major Doug Rokke, former Director of the Gulf War I DU Cleanup Team, reported that an email from the Pentagon 30 minutes after impact confirmed a Cruise missile hit the Pentagon on 9/11.

Recently vast Uranium deposits have been reported in Khazakstan and Afghanistan. Khazakstan is expected to out-produce Canada in Uranium production within 12 years. This exposes the economic interests behind the events of 9/11, specifically the unjustified military attack by the U.S. on Afghanistan using 9/11 as a pretext.

PUBLIC HEALTH EFFECTS OF DEPLETED URANIUM (DU)

The demonstrated public health effects of Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons include: Diabetes; Cancer; Birth defects; Chronic diseases caused by neurological and neuromuscular radiation damage; Mitochondrial diseases (Chronic fatigue syndrome, Lou Gehrig’s, Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s; Heart and brain disorders); Global DNA damage in men’s sperm; Infertility in women; Learning disabilities such as autism, and dyslexia; Mental Illness; Infant mortality and low birth weights; Increase in death rates and decrease in birth rates.

Leuren Moret and Alfred Lambremont Webre, JD, MEd, of the Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS) will also address the issue of the illegal use of Canadian Uranium in U.S. Depleted Uranium (DU) weapons world-wide.  Canada is the world’s largest exporter of Uranium, and supplies 30% of the world’s uranium.  60% of Canadian Uranium is exported to the USA.  According to experts such as Dr. Rosalie Bertell, the preponderant majority of Depleted Uranium in U.S. DU weapons used in the Iraq War I (1991); Balkans War (1998); the Iraq No Fly Zone (1991-2003); the Afghanistan War (2001-2007); and Iraq War II (2003-2007) is of Canadian origin, in non-compliance with Canadian law.  The regulations of the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission and the Canada-US Nuclear Cooperation Agreement prohibit the use of Canadian uranium in weapons, including DU weapons.

Depleted Uranium and DU weapons are already prohibited as Weapons of Mass Destruction under existing international conventions and treaties, including the 1925 Geneva Poison Gas Protocol.  According to an August 2002 report by the UN Sub-commission, laws which are breached by the use of DU shells include: “the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; the Charter of the United Nations; the Genocide Convention; the Convention Against Torture; the four Geneva Conventions of 1949; the Conventional Weapons Convention of 1980; and the Hague Conventions of 1899 and 1907, which expressly forbid employing 'poison or poisoned weapons' and 'arms, projectiles or materials calculated to cause unnecessary suffering'.  All of these laws are designed to spare civilians from unwarranted suffering in armed conflicts."

Atomic weapons, Depleted Uranium poison gas weapons and the first Agent Orange prototype were developed in World War Two under the Manhattan Project to target civilian populations, for the specific purpose of depopulation.  The global pollution of the atmosphere, with Depleted Uranium radioactive poison gas since 1991, is causing a global epidemic of chronic illnesses, which will contribute to extensive depopulation and ecological destruction.  This is newly defined as Omnicide. Depopulation became the top U.S. National Security priority detailed in the “Global 2000” Report written by Henry Kissinger, Z. Brzezinski, Gen. Alexander B. Haig, and Sen Edward Muskie for Pres. Jimmy Carter.  This National Security Policy of Depopulation is now being carried out by means of global low level radioactive DU pollution. The result, an increase in death rates and decrease in birth rates, will achieve the goals of maximizing profits and concentrating wealth upwards, for the benefit of an international War Crimes Racketeering Organization.

Joining Leuren Moret on a Special Panel on Depleted Uranium (DU) will be Dr. Bill Deagle, a medical toxicologist experienced in DU and environmental health; Dennis Kyne, a former Gulf War I U.S. military combat veteran with DU exposure, author and leader in revealing the Depleted Uranium scandal, and Alfred Lambremont Webre, JD, MEd, International Director of the Institute for Cooperation in Space (ICIS).

International Citizen’s 9/11 War Crimes Tribunal

Lillian and Julia, best friends as girls, giggled secrets through sleepovers, rolled their eyes as teenagers, and never lost touch. Lillian grew up to be a writer of plays and the lover of another great writer. Julia, a wealthy heiress, became a fighter in the Austrian resistance to the Nazis and the lover of a resistance leader.

Then one day, Julia, tough and resourceful and living in Vienna, turned for help to Lillian, high-strung and pampered, living in luxury’s lap. And the story of how Lillian smuggled $50,000 to Julia, money that would save people from the Nazis, was told in the best-selling memoir of that Lillian: Lillian Hellman. It became an acclaimed movie called “Julia,” a portrayal of friendship at its most towering.

All their lives, Julia tells Lillian, “You can do it.”

In our time, Tania Head has told a story every bit as rich and irresistible as Hellman’s, set at the World Trade Center on 9/11. It goes like this: Badly burned in the attack, Ms. Head was handed a wedding ring by a dying man who asked her to bring it to his family. As she descended from the 78th floor of the south tower, she was sustained by the mental image of the white dress that she was to wear at her own wedding to Dave — her fiancé, who, at that very moment, was trapped in the other tower.

Ms. Head’s account appeared in newspaper and magazine articles. She led an organization for survivors, gave tours at the 9/11 Tribute Center to everyone from ordinary tourists to Rudolph W. Giuliani.

Whether from Lillian Hellman’s pen or Tania Head’s mouth, in Europe during World War II or Lower Manhattan in 2001, the mythic power of the stories was the same. Love had given Hellman and Ms. Head the strength to transcend terrors.

The similarities do not end there.

Neither story has any verifiable link to reality.

For personal reasons, Lillian Hellman wrote, she could not give Julia’s true name. For the safety of people who had fought the Nazis, she said, she would not disclose — even in the 1970s, three full decades after the Nazis had been crushed — the identity of a baker’s family in Alsace that had been entrusted with Julia’s baby daughter. Even the funeral home on a London street that received Julia’s body after she was slashed to death in Austria could not be located: The building had been destroyed in a bombing blitz. Thus, another lost detail.

Apart from the identity of dead people like her lover, the writer Dashiell Hammett, the sole particular to emerge from this stirring history rendered by Lillian Hellman was one name: Lillian Hellman.

The story told by Tania Head has been similarly shrouded. Dave, the fiancé lost in the north tower, has never been publicly identified, and his relatives have said they never heard of Ms. Head. Neither was the family of the man whose wedding ring she said she carried out of the south tower. The names she did provide — of her employer, and her colleges — turned out to be not much help, since neither job nor schools had any record of her existence. A report in The New York Times on Thursday described extensive efforts to verify her story. It could not be.

Like Lillian Hellman before her, Ms. Head — whether her story turns out to have any links to factuality — had stepped forward to satisfy, at least temporarily, the hunger for redemption amid destruction. She gave the people in the bleachers what they wanted: a connection to the horror, and a way out.

The glaze of myth has encrusted Sept. 11 almost from the morning the buildings fell, some of it based in fact, some in fabrication, some in ignorance. Among the relics collected soon afterward by the Smithsonian Institution was a cellphone thought to have been used that day by Mayor Rudolph W. Giuliani, a meaningful artifact because he held it while rallying the city. Much later, investigations revealed — against the wishes of the current city administration — how government communication networks had failed at almost every level during the emergency, dooming civilians with bad information and firefighters with none.

The loss of illusions does not have to be deflating or dispiriting; some 9/11 myths turn out to be nothing more than empty calories, compared with the truth. People really did escape from the high floors of the south tower, 18 of them.

Even without Tania Head, they gave powerful witness to actual people who were hurt and others who died trying to help. And whether Hellman’s “Julia” existed or not, there was an American heiress who bravely resisted the Nazis in Austria. She managed to escape. Her name was Muriel Gardiner. She never met Lillian Hellman.

DARYN KAGAN, CNN ANCHOR: On a day when New York is celebrating finalized plans to rebuild the World Trade Center Towers, New York medical examiners have identified the remains of two of the 9/11 hijackers.
Our Jamie Colby is live in New York with more on the story.

JAMIE COLBY, CNN CORRESPONDENT: Daryn, good afternoon. It had become important to the families of the 9/11 victims not to have any unidentified remains of their loved ones commingled with the remains of the hijackers in the event that those unidentified remains were made part of a World Trade Center memorial. The positive identification, and more importantly, the separation of those remains by the New York City medical examiner of the two hijackers is according to New York Governor Pataki something that the families of the World Trade Center attack victims deserve.

GOV. GEORGE PATAKI ®, NEW YORK: I think it's important that the remains that are relocated to ground zero are the remains of the heroes who died and not of those evil murderers. And I'm pleased that the medical examiner has been able to identify some of their remains so they can go rot in hell, not as part of our tribute to the heroes we lost.

COLBY: The identification also represents a critical finding for the FBI according to Dr. Lawrence Kobelinski. He is a noted forensic scientist and professor of forensic at New York's John J. College of Criminal Justice.

LAWRENCE KOBILINSKY: The fact that we're now able to make a match of these individuals, these hijackers is very significant. Because this is the first time that we can actually absolutely identify them as the hijackers.

COLBY: The matched data could also, Daryn, be used to help further the overall investigation into Al Qaeda terrorist activities by creating a DNA trail involving these two hijackers.

KOBILINSKY: Now we have their genetics and we can actually use this information to follow them. Where have they been in the past? Perhaps we can hook them up to other individuals. Where have they been? Who have they been in touch with? Who have they touched? Who have they been in contact with? In fact, perhaps the FBI now needs to establish a database.

COLBY: And the goal of DNA testing, Daryn, remains to matched cells as quickly and accurately as possible. Technology is advancing at a rapid pace. In particular, the doctor is testing equipment in his lab that will allow scientists and investigators to go to crime scenes with the equipment and make matches in as little as ten minutes. In addition, some technology that's being used in England right now, called low impact numbers technology of DNA testing is allowing accurate verification of IDs in as little as the 10 minutes, but also with a single-cell match. That is a very small amount of DNA, smaller than anything that we here in the United States are able to use. The Dr. Kobilinsky says the future could hold the FBI perhaps using that technology -- Daryn.

A former New York City official pleaded guilty Tuesday to stealing millions of government dollars, some of which were intended to help identify victims of the September 11, 2001, attacks, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.

In shocking news, it is being reported that a former NYC official has admitted to stealing 9/11 funds.

According to the US Attorney's Office the money was supposed to be used to help fund efforts to identify human remains of people who were killed on 9/11, but Natarajan R. Venkataram had other ideas for the money.

He pleaded guilty to embezzlement, money laundering and conspiracy charges before the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York, Michael J. Garcia.

He is currently being held in prison in New York.

Venkataram "pled guilty because he is guilty, and he wanted to do the right thing. He feels terribly about what he did," said his lawyer Alan Seidler.

If the government has their way, Venkataram will spend 20 years in jail for what he did.

For 13 years, Venkataram served as the director of New York's Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Following 9/11, the Federal Emergency Management Agency provided the office with money to partly be used to help pay for identifying victims of the attack through lab tests.

Instead of using the money for what it was meant for, Venkataram along with another employee Rosa Abreu ,sent much of it to companies that did not even exist.

Abreu pleaded guilty to the same charges as Venkataram last week.

NRI Venkataram was released on a $1million bail secured by $400,000 in cash by Judge Andrew Peck. He is confined with electronic monitoring to the home of a co-signer, and as per bail terms will be permitted to leave the house only to attend court proceedings. Judge Andrew Peck first denied bail to Abreu, a Dominican native but later granted bail at $400,000.

US Attorney's office filed charges against him and a colleague for allegedly siphoning of more than $10 million allotted by the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The prosecution said, Venkataram transferred $5.5 million from those funds to bank accounts in India. OCME obtained millions of dollars from FEMA that were specifically earmarked for the purchase of computer hardware, software applications and support services.

OCME's employee who first reported the scam to Stephan Zander, Deputy Inspector General for the Department of Investigation at the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene in 2004. Department of Investigation at the NYC found:

CCR issued checks totaling more than $90,000 to Infodata Associates Corporation. President of the company was Gisela Abreu, Rosa Brieu's aunt.
CCR, HS Group, and Infotech issued checksmore than $575,000 to A&D Marketing Corporation.
More than $500,000 was paid Trade A2Z. The address of this company was Venkataram's home.
Venkataram floated other companies to show competitive bid to make it appear that there was a competitive bid.
The majority of the money made by did little or no work and were sometimes controlled by the defendants, prosecution said.

Two NRI arrested for $5.5 million fraud of Sept. 11 victims funds

NRI, non-resident Indian, Natarajan R. Venkataram, 41, and Rosa Abreu, 38, were arrested for stealing $5.5 million of dollars intended to help identify victims of of Sep. 11 attack of World Trade Center. They transferred these funds to their bank accounts in India.

An official contract worth $11.4 million had been given to help the medical examiner to buy computer hardware, software and support services to identify victims and the dead people. Venkataram and Rosa Abreu, both were administrators in the medical examiner's office and misused their power to steal the funds

Prosecutors claimed the Natarajan R. Venkataram, 41, and Rosa Abreu had diverted millions of dollars to companies, some controlled by them or their associates, which never work or did small jobs.

My research interests concern the use of state-of-the-art technology to identify individuals from physiological fluids and tissues, and to associate biological crime scene evidence with a suspect. Forensic DNA analysis has been termed a revolutionary technique which resulted from the ground-breaking work of Drs. Kary Mullis and Alec Jeffries. The technology has evolved ever since.

The late 80’s saw the adoption of RFLP (DNA Fingerprinting) methods by a number of public and private laboratories. The FBI and other Federal, State and County laboratories became keenly interested in the promise of this technology. There was a clear transition from protein analysis to nucleotide analysis, the latter being far superior because of a greater degree of polymorphism that exists at various genetic loci within the genome. During the early 90's, the expensive and time consuming RFLP procedure has been supplanted by the use of analyses of evidence that had been amplified by the Polymerase Chain Reaction technology to generate large quantities of genetic material from, often, miniscule amounts of evidence found at crime scenes. The amplified DNA can then be tested using a variety of different methods such as reverse dot blot procedures, gel or capillary electrophoresis.

Currently, my research is focused on single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) detection and on sequencing technology. Although SNP analysis is not yet performed by forensic laboratories, it is in many ways far superior to the current widely used PCR-STR analysis. The forensic biology laboratory at John Jay boasts all the necessary equipment to perform all types of forensic DNA analysis. This equipment includes ABI-Prism sequencers (310 and 377), the latter being a gel electrophoresis instrument and the former being a capillary electrophoresis instrument. It also includes an ABI Taqman for real time PCR studies as well as SNP detection. SNP detection is also accomplished with a Transgenomic Wave instrument. The laboratory is also equipped with an Agilent system which features the latest chip technology for human identification. The Lab on a Chip uses micro-capillary electrophoresis followed by gene scanning to accomplish identification.
